Lot 22: A Brass Tray and Two Pairs of Silver Plated Sugar Tongs
A mixed lot consisting of a circular tray and two pairs of U-shaped tongs. The circular tray is constructed from polished brass featuring a raised, reeded rim. The tongs are fashioned from white metal, likely silver plate, with plain polished handles and oval spoon-shaped bowls. A small orange adhesive rectangular sticker is present on the face of the brass tray, bearing the handwritten number 22 in orange ink. A small white rectangular adhesive sticker is attached to the outer rim of the brass tray with the number 4 printed in black. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or assay stamps are legible on any of the items in the collection.
Condition report:
The brass tray exhibits significant surface wear, including scattered scratches and scuffs across the central well (photo 1). There is a prominent area of dark tarnish and oxidation in the lower-left quadrant of the tray surface. Both pairs of tongs show light surface wear and fine micro-scratching consistent with domestic use and cleaning. The lower pair of tongs in the primary image shows a slight lateral distortion to one arm (photo 1).
