A representational landscape watercolour on paper, depicting a river flowing through a wooded valley. The composition features a stony riverbank in the foreground, with dense clusters of deciduous trees in varying shades of green and yellow ochre. Distant rolling hills are rendered in muted purple and grey tones under a pale, clouded sky. The work is executed with fluid washes and fine brushwork to define the foliage. The painting is housed in a wide off-white mount and a simple light-toned wooden frame. In the lower right corner, there is a small painted inscription consisting of two initials and the digits 56, though the characters are not clearly legible as a specific name. The paper appears to be a medium-weight wove variety.
Condition report:
The paper shows overall toning and discolouration consistent with age. There is scattered foxing, most notably visible in the upper left sky area (photo 1). A faint line of mat burn is visible along the edges where the paper meets the mount. The wooden frame has minor surface scuffs and light wear to the corners and edges.
