Lot 159: Tom Dodson, Dancing in the Park, Limited Edition Signed Print
A limited edition colour print on paper titled Dancing in the Park by the British artist Tom Dodson (1910–1991). The work is executed in a naive social realist style, depicting a large, densely packed crowd of figures in mid-20th-century attire gathered around a red-pillared bandstand in a public park. The composition features a broad expanse of green grass in the foreground and a pale, atmospheric sky. In the lower right corner, the artist has signed the work in graphite as Tom Dodson, positioned above a printed block-letter signature reading TOM DODSON. A handwritten edition number in graphite is located at the lower centre, reading 69/850, indicating this is the 69th impression from a total edition of 850. The print is presented in a cream-coloured mount and housed within a dark wood-effect frame featuring a gilded inner lip.
Condition report:
The print appears to be in good condition with no visible signs of foxing, staining, or fading to the pigments (photo 1). The paper remains flat within the mount. The frame shows minor surface wear, including small scuffs and a light accumulation of dust consistent with age (photo 1). The glazing is intact. Not examined out of the frame.
