Lot 192a: A Collection of Five Philatelic Reference Books Including Stanley Gibbons Simplified Catalogue 2005 Edition and The Stamp Atlas
This is a collection of five philatelic reference books comprising a complete four-volume set of the Stanley Gibbons Simplified Catalogue: Stamps of the World in Colour, 2005 Edition, and a hardcover copy of The Stamp Atlas. The Stanley Gibbons set consists of Volume 1 (Countries A-D), Volume 2 (Countries E-J), Volume 3 (Countries K-R), and Volume 4 (Countries S-Z), all bound in large-format softcover trade paperback. The Stamp Atlas is authored by W. Raife Wellsted, Stuart Rossiter, and John Flower, with an introduction by the American Philatelic Society, and is a hardcover volume with its original dust jacket. An adhesive barcode label on the lower front cover of The Stamp Atlas reads NUERNBERG HIGH SCHOOL above 3 4407 00017 5031. A circular ink marking on the front cover of Stanley Gibbons Volume 4 contains the handwritten note ALL THE ST’S. The items are housed in a cardboard box bearing external auction lot labels, including a white label printed 26 26 and an orange label with handwritten 192A.
Condition report:
The books are in used condition with visible shelf wear and signs of frequent handling. The Stanley Gibbons volumes show rubbing and bumping to the edges and corners of the covers (photo 2). The spines of these softcover volumes exhibit vertical creasing consistent with use (photo 1). Volume 4 of the set has a circular ink marking on the front cover (photo 2). The Stamp Atlas is an ex-library copy featuring an adhesive barcode label and two strips of yellowed adhesive tape on the front of the dust jacket near the spine (photo 1). The dust jacket shows general shelf wear and minor creasing to the edges.
