Lot 582: An Edwardian Mahogany Sutherland Table
A mahogany Sutherland table. The piece features a mahogany veneered top with a high-gloss finish and rounded corners. It consists of a narrow central fixed section and two large drop leaves, which are supported by a gateleg mechanism. The table stands on four slender legs with flat profiles and out-swept feet. The frame and legs are constructed from solid hardwood stained to match the mahogany top. The underside shows the gateleg support rails and brass hinges used to articulate the leaves. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or labels on the piece.
Condition report:
The high-gloss tabletop exhibits multiple surface scratches and small indentations visible across the surface (photo 1). There is light wear and minor chipping to the veneer along the edges of the drop leaves (photo 1). The underside of the table shows an accumulation of dust and cobwebs (photo 1). The legs show minor scuffing and finish loss, particularly towards the feet, consistent with age and handling (photo 1).
