Lot 577: A Trio of White-Painted Wicker Armchairs
A trio of white-painted wicker armchairs in varied designs, constructed from real natural wicker over structural frames. The collection includes a tub-style chair featuring a high, rounded barrel back that curves seamlessly into the armrests with a fully woven seat; a tall-back armchair in a fiddle-back style with a high arched top rail, vertical openwork in the backrest, and rounded armrests; and a structured armchair with a rectangular back and straight, flat-topped arms. The tall-back armchair bears a small orange rectangular adhesive label on the top edge of the backrest, though the text is not legible. A small white square adhesive label is present on the top rail of the tub-style armchair, bearing a mark resembling a single digit ‘1’ that is not clearly defined. No maker’s names, signatures, or manufacturer’s stamps are visible on the frames or under the seats.
Condition report:
The chairs are in used condition with visible wear throughout. There is widespread chipping, flaking, and loss to the white paint finish, particularly on high-contact areas such as the armrests and the lower legs, which exposes the underlying natural material (the photograph). The wicker weave is largely intact across all three pieces, although there are occasional small breaks, fraying, and loose strands consistent with age and use (the photograph). Surface dirt, scuffing, and minor marks are evident, particularly around the feet and base stretchers (the photograph).
