Lot 562: An Early 20th Century English Oak Two Tier Barley Twist Side Table
A two-tier side table or whatnot in the Jacobean Revival style, constructed from solid oak with a dark stained finish. The piece features two rectangular solid wood tiers, each finished with a decorative beaded edge to the front and sides. The structure is supported by four continuous barley-twist uprights that function as legs, terminating in short, simple turned feet. The design is characteristic of British furniture from the early to mid-20th century. There are no maker marks, labels, or stamps visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The table shows signs of age and regular use. Both tiers exhibit surface wear, including scuffs, scratches, and some dulling of the polish (photo 1). There are minor indentations and light edge wear to the beaded decoration and the barley-twist supports (photo 1). The structure appears sound, although there is general surface dirt present throughout the piece.
