Lot 522: A weathered cast stone garden pedestal with grapevine relief decoration
A garden pedestal of baluster form constructed from cast stone. The piece features a stepped circular capital above a neck that tapers into a central shaft decorated in high relief with trailing grapevines and fruit clusters. The pedestal stands upon a square plinth base embellished with scrolled, acanthus-style corners. The surface exhibits a heavy natural patina consistent with prolonged outdoor exposure. On the top flat surface, there is a small, round white adhesive sticker with a black border and a handwritten black number 2, along with a small plain orange adhesive sticker. No manufacturer marks or signatures are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The pedestal is in a heavily weathered condition as shown in the primary photograph. There is extensive lichen and moss growth throughout, particularly concentrated around the lower shaft and base. The cast stone surface shows characteristic pitting, erosion, and scattered minor abrasions, all consistent with long-term garden use. The structure appears sound despite the surface weathering.
