Lot 41: A Floral Pattern Glazed Earthenware Teapot and Pierced Bowl

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two pieces of glazed earthenware decorated in the Botanic Garden pattern, featuring botanical illustrations and insects. The first item is a globular teapot with a curved spout and an ear-shaped handle, accompanied by a domed lid with a distinctive four-lobed, cross-shaped finial. The decoration consists of underglaze transfer-printed pink Cyclamen repandum wildflowers and butterflies, with a green laurel leaf border encircling the shoulder and the rim of the lid. The second item is a deep, footed bowl featuring a decorative reticulated rim with heart-shaped piercings and a matching laurel leaf border to the footed base. The bowl is decorated with pink wildflowers and butterflies to both the interior and exterior. An orange adhesive label marked 41 is attached to the teapot lid, a white adhesive label marked 1 is present on the teapot handle, and a further small white adhesive sticker is adhered to the rim of the bowl. Although no manufacturer backstamps are visible in the provided image, the forms and decorative motifs are unmistakably consistent with the Portmeirion Botanic Garden range.

Condition report:

The teapot spout shows a small chip at the tip. Several small brown spots are visible on the white ground of the teapot body, which may indicate surface staining or localized glaze crazing. The footed bowl appears to be in generally good condition with no visible chips or cracks, although a single dark speck is visible in the interior well.
