Lot 35: A pair of Queen Anne style cast brass candlesticks with octagonal bases
A matching pair of cast brass candlesticks designed in the Queen Anne style. Each candlestick features a knopped baluster stem with turned detailing above a stepped octagonal base. The construction is solid cast brass with a deep, unpolished patina. Two small circular white adhesive labels are applied to the upper rims of the drip pans; the markings on these labels are not legible. No other manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The pair shows signs of age and significant use. Both candlesticks exhibit an unpolished patina with areas of surface tarnish and oxidation across the metal (photo 1). A substantial amount of white residue, consistent with dried metal polish or wax, is present in the recesses of the knops and the mouldings of the bases (photo 1). Fine surface scratches and light pitting are visible throughout the brass. Minor debris and cobwebs are present (photo 1).
