Lot 245: Gerald Coulson and Terence Cuneo, Two Offset Lithographic Aviation Prints of World War II Bombers

Buyer's Premium:

A lot comprising two offset lithographic prints depicting iconic British World War II aircraft. The first work, by Gerald Coulson, illustrates an Avro Lancaster bomber in flight amidst a sun-drenched cloudscape. The name COULSON is printed in capital letters in the lower right corner of the image area. This print is presented in a dark green double mount and a gilt wooden frame under glass. The second work is an unframed print after an oil painting by Terence Cuneo, titled The Last Halifax. It depicts a Handley Page Halifax on a taxiway during sunset, surrounded by ground crew and an airfield vehicle. The lower right margin contains printed text that reads THE LAST HALIFAX, From the original oil painting by, TERENCE CUNEO, and Presented by THE BIRMINGHAM EVENING MAIL. Both pieces are open editions with no visible edition numbering or hand-signatures.


Condition report:

The Gerald Coulson print appears in good condition within its frame, with no visible foxing or fading (photo 1). The Terence Cuneo print exhibits significant signs of age and handling (photo 1). There is notable toning and yellowing to the paper, particularly towards the margins. A prominent vertical handling crease is visible running through the right side of the image area, alongside edge wear and small tears to the sheet (photo 1).
