Lot 221: Three vintage construction toy sets by LEGO and Miro-Meccano
A collection of three vintage construction sets comprising two technical building sets and one metal construction set. The first item is a technical building set constructed from plastic components, housed in a black cardboard box. A red square logo with white and yellow lettering reads LEGO. The number 854 is printed in large white characters at the top left. The box displays illustrations of a go-kart and vehicle chassis, and includes text reading FOR EXPERT LEGO BUILDERS FROM 9 YEARS AND UP. A small white circular adhesive label with the number 7 is affixed to the top left corner. The second item is a technical building set featuring a yellow front-loading tractor. The original cardboard box is stored within a green, white, and red cardboard produce crate printed with the brand unifrutti Avocados from Peru. The LEGO logo is visible on the inner box alongside age recommendations in multiple languages including FROM 9 YEARS, AB 9 JAHREN, and FRA 9 AR. A yellow adhesive price label with handwritten notations including £15 is attached to the left side. The third item is a large metal and plastic construction set in a red cardboard box. A blue and white oval logo contains the word MECCANO in bold white lettering with a registered trademark symbol. The packaging features text in English and French, stating MADE IN FRANCE, THE RIGHT IS RESERVED TO IMPROVE AND AMEND COLOURS, SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTENTS, and MIRO-MECCANO S.A. A small white circular label with the number 7 and an orange rectangular label with the number 221 are present on the right side. The box front includes transparent plastic window sections showing various red and metal internal components.
Condition report:
The items are in used vintage condition with wear consistent with age and handling. The box for the LEGO 854 set shows significant creasing, edge rubbing, and fraying at the corners (photo 1). The LEGO 856 set box exhibits shelf wear and is stored in a repurposed produce crate which shows light staining and scuffing (photo 1). The Meccano box displays heavy wear with scuffing to the printed red surface and loss at the edges (photo 1). Yellow tape residue is present on the lower front face of the Meccano packaging (photo 1). The internal completeness of all sets has not been verified.
