Lot 179: Abbey, Notre-Dame, a Graphite Drawing
A graphite pencil drawing on white wove paper depicting a detailed architectural view of the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral from across the River Seine. The composition features the cathedral spire and Gothic facade, framed by two stylized trees in the foreground. The scene includes the river with a passing boat, a stone embankment with overhanging foliage, and a walkway with small figures. A signpost within the drawing is marked BATOBUS. The drawing is inscribed in pencil at the lower left Abbey . Notre Dame. The work is presented in a gold-toned moulded frame under glass with a white mount. An orange adhesive sticker reading 179 and a white adhesive tag reading 7 are adhered to the glass surface.
Condition report:
The drawing and paper appear to be in good condition with no visible foxing, staining, or tears (photo 1). The gold-toned moulded frame shows minor superficial scuffs and wear to the gilt finish (photo 1). Auction labels are present on the exterior glass surface (photo 1).
