Lot 127: A Circular Barbola Floral Wall Mirror
A circular frameless wall mirror in the Barbola style, dating from the early-to-mid 20th century. The mirror plate features a bevelled edge and is decorated with a molded Barbola-work floral applique extending along the left-hand margin. The decoration consists of various blossoms, including roses, finished in polychrome shades of red, pink, yellow, and green. The plate is secured to a backing by three visible metal clips. An orange rectangular adhesive sticker is applied to the left side of the mirror face, bearing the handwritten digits 1, 2, and 7. A small white rectangular adhesive sticker is applied to the bottom left edge, bearing the printed digit 1. There are no maker’s marks, factory stamps, or signatures visible on the item.
Condition report:
The mirror plate exhibits significant condition issues including extensive foxing and silvering loss, most notably a large cloud-like area of degradation on the right-hand side and various dark spots across the surface (photo 1). There is a visible white residue or smear on the right side of the glass (photo 1). The floral applique appears largely intact, though there is minor surface wear and dust accumulation consistent with age (photo 1).
