Lot 680a: Harold Riley, The Blessing, Framed Print
Identification: Harold Riley (1934-2023), titled The Blessing. This work is a print of an original pastel drawing, depicting a dreamlike scene of a young figure with long dark hair, wearing a pink dress and holding a small bouquet of flowers, reclining against a large, stylized white moon face. The print is inscribed in pencil in the lower right margin with the name and address Joanne Fawles N.W.3. The work is housed in a cream-coloured mount and a contemporary gilt-wood frame under glass. The frame and glass bear secondary identifying stickers, including an orange label marked 680A and a white label marked 1111.
Condition report:
The print shows visible surface rippling and undulation across the sheet. There is evidence of light toning to the paper and potential fading of the pigments. The mount is heavily toned and displays significant foxing and spotting throughout, with a large dark water stain or discoloration present in the lower right corner. The gilt-wood frame exhibits surface wear, including minor scuffs, nicks to the gilding, and accumulated dust.
