Lot 327: S. R. Baly, 'Architectural Scene with Figures' and A Collection of Prints and Watercolours (Signed)
A collection of framed artworks comprising various media including prints and watercolours. The primary work is an architectural study on paper depicting a large white Regency-style building with figures and garden foliage, signed S. R. Baly and inscribed Holborn at the upper edge. The central work is a large offset lithograph print of Claude Monet’s Camille Monet in the Garden at Argenteuil, featuring an impressionist landscape with dense foliage and a figure. Also included is a smaller horizontal work on paper depicting a landscape with a windmill and red-roofed houses. The collection includes other partially visible framed landscapes. The works are presented in a variety of frames, including decorative gilt wood frames with beaded edges, simple gilt frames, and a light wood frame with a gilt-lined slip. The pieces are mounted with cream and white card surrounds and are all protected by glazing.
Condition report:
The frames show signs of minor age-related wear, including small scuffs, surface abrasions, and light dust accumulation. The card mounts exhibit some discolouration and toning, particularly evident at the edges of the apertures on the Baly and windmill scenes. The paper supports appear generally stable with occasional light yellowing consistent with age. All glazing is intact with no visible cracks.
