Lot 303: Terry Logan, A Pair of Watercolours
A pair of 20th-century landscape paintings by the British artist Terry Logan, executed in watercolour on paper. The first work depicts a steep hillside or mountain flank under a heavy, overcast sky, rendered with broad washes characteristic of the mid-20th-century British school. The second work portrays a traditional stone arched packhorse bridge spanning a river with trees and hills in the background. This second work is signed vertically along the far-right edge TERRY LOGAN. Both works are housed in matching dark wood frames with gilt inner edges. The hillside scene is presented with a double mount in charcoal and tan. The bridge scene is presented in a cream mount featuring a hand-ruled border.
Condition report:
The hillside watercolour exhibits significant buckling to the paper. The bridge scene has a prominent diagonal crack to the glazing in the upper-right corner. The mount for the bridge scene shows a large brown foxing or damp stain in the lower-left corner, as well as general surface dirt and smudging to the mount.
