Lot 91: A Large 19th Century Staffordshire Scottish Highland Hunter Equestrian Figurine
A Victorian Staffordshire earthenware flat-back figurine depicting a Scottish Highland Hunter on horseback. The piece is constructed from glazed earthenware with underglaze colours and on-glaze enamel detailing to the facial features and hat. The rider is dressed in a black tricorne hat, a light-coloured coat, and dark boots, mounted upon a horse in a rearing pose. The entire composition is set upon a textured, rocky-style mound base, designed for display on a mantelpiece. No factory marks are visible on the base or body. An orange sticker with the handwritten number 11 is attached to the horse’s haunch.
Height: 20 cm – 30 cm.
Condition report:
The figurine displays significant fine crazing across the entire glazed surface. There is visible surface grime and dust accumulation within the crevices and crazing lines. A prominent hairline crack is visible on the horse\'s neck, extending from the mane towards the chest. Minor enamel flaking and small chips are present on the edge of the rider\'s hat and around the bottom edge of the base.
