Lot 577: Edwardian Sheraton Revival Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard Superstructure
This is the mahogany upper section or superstructure of an Edwardian sideboard or display cabinet in the Sheraton Revival style. The construction features boxwood stringing and cross-banded decorative panels throughout. The piece is arranged into three main vertical sections. The left section contains a mirrored niche beneath an arched top rail and a gallery of turned spindles. The centre section features a pair of glazed cupboard doors, each with four panes, opening to an interior fitted with wooden shelving. There are small labels present on the lower-left glass pane, including a white sticker with hand-written numbers 20 20 and an orange circular sticker. The right section is a cupboard with two solid mahogany panels, each decorated with inlaid borders and fitted with brass swing handles. This item is the top portion of a two-piece unit and is currently detached from its base.
Condition report:
The item exhibits surface wear consistent with age, including scuffs, scratches, and abrasions to the mahogany finish, notably along the edges and mouldings. One brass keyhole escutcheon is missing from the centre glazed section. There is a buildup of dust and some minor residues on the wood surfaces. The mirrored and glazed panels appear intact without significant cracks or chips. The item is offered as the upper section only, separated from its original lower cabinet.
