Lot 571: Regency Pierced Brass Fireplace Fender
A Regency period fireplace fender constructed from brass. The low-profile design features a prominent frieze of pierced fretwork with a repeating pattern of interlocking oval motifs. This decorative band is bordered below by a secondary row of smaller rectangular piercings. The fender is finished with a rounded top rail and features curved returns designed to fit around a hearth. The piece is constructed from moulded rails and sheet metal. A small yellow adhesive label is present on the lower front rail. No maker’s marks are visible.
Condition report:
The item shows signs of age and use consistent with an antique piece. There is significant surface tarnish, dark spotting, and areas of oxidation across the brass. Visible minor dents and slight deformations are present in the pierced metalwork and along the top rail. The right-hand end piece is slightly bent out of alignment.
