Lot 570: An Edwardian Quartersawn Oak Library Cabinet with Integrated Card Index Drawers
An Edwardian oak library or office cabinet featuring a pull-out section containing two small index card drawers. The cabinet is primarily constructed from solid oak, with prominent quartersawn grain and medullary rays visible on the overhanging upper rail. The card index drawers are fitted with original cast brass label-holder pulls with integrated finger grips, each secured by four screws. Adjacent to the pull-out unit is a paneled door with decorative mouldings and a small, turned wooden knob. A portion of a glazed upper section with a wooden frame is visible above the drawer unit. The piece displays characteristic Edwardian cabinetry details, including decorative recessed panels and substantial mouldings.
Condition report:
The cabinet shows signs of age and use consistent with library or office furniture. There is a layer of surface dust throughout the piece. Minor scuffs, scratches, and wear to the finish are visible on the drawer fronts and edges. The timber shows some natural movement and drying consistent with its age.
