Lot 568: An Early 20th Century Jacobean Revival Oak Two-Piece Bookcase Cabinet
A Jacobean Revival style oak storage unit of two-piece construction. The upper section features an open front with three fixed shelves, each formerly fitted with a decorative scalloped wooden frieze to the leading edge, set beneath a moulded cornice. The lower cabinet base comprises a single full-width frieze drawer with two turned wooden knobs, situated above a pair of cupboard doors. Each door features two raised fielded panels with chip-carved decorative borders. The unit is finished in a medium-to-dark stain and sits on a plain plinth base. Metal hinges are fitted to the cupboard doors.
Condition report:
The item is in poor condition and requires restoration. There is significant loss and breakage to the scalloped decorative trim on all three upper shelves. The oak surfaces exhibit widespread scratches, abrasions, and circular water staining, most notably on the interior shelves and the top of the lower cabinet. The piece is heavily soiled with dust and grime throughout, consistent with long-term storage.
