Lot 566: Early 20th Century Oak Gateleg Side Table with Barley Twist Legs
An early 20th-century oak gateleg side table in the Jacobean Revival style. The table features an oval drop-leaf top over a single frieze drawer at one end. The drawer is decorated with a moulded panel front and retains two brass teardrop handles on shaped backplates. The base consists of six barley-twist turned legs joined by rectangular stretchers, with two of the legs functioning as swinging gates to support the leaves. Solid oak construction throughout. Small white and orange adhesive labels are present on the underside of the table top, though the text is currently illegible. No maker’s marks or manufacturer stamps are visible on the underside or drawer.
Condition report:
The item is currently stored in an inverted position and exhibits a heavy layer of surface dust, grime, and cobwebs. There are scattered scuffs, scratches, and minor abrasions to the wood finish throughout, consistent with age and domestic use. The metal drawer hardware shows oxidation and tarnish. The piece appears to be structurally sound but requires professional cleaning and polishing.
