Lot 331: Arthur, Atmospheric Mountainous Landscape, Watercolour on Paper
An atmospheric mountainous landscape executed in watercolour on paper, viewed across a body of water. The work is rendered in a soft style with a muted palette of pale blues, greys, and greens. It is signed in the lower right corner Arthur followed by an indistinct surname. The painting is housed in a nested framing arrangement comprising a gilt-edged cream inner frame and a white-painted outer wooden frame with a multi-layered mount. An orange price sticker reading £15 and a small white adhesive residue are present on the glazing.
Condition report:
There is visible foxing across the multi-layered mount. Mat burn and toning are evident along the perimeter of the paper where it meets the mount. The watercolour pigments show minor light fading. The outer white frame and inner cream frame exhibit multiple scuffs, chips, and areas of paint loss, particularly at the corners. Adhesive residue and a price sticker are present on the glazing. The painting appears to be slightly misaligned within the mount.
