Lot 319: Late 19th Century Renaissance Revival Carved Oak Wall Mirror
A late 19th or early 20th century wall mirror featuring a substantial rectangular frame of dark-stained hardwood, likely oak. The frame is constructed in the Renaissance Revival style, characterised by deep, stepped architectural mouldings and a wide border of intricate relief carving depicting scrolling foliage and stylised floral motifs. The corners are accented with projecting blocks or ears, reinforcing the architectural aesthetic. The mirror houses a rectangular glass plate with a deep bevelled edge.
Condition report:
The mirror plate is in good overall condition with the silvering appearing largely intact; some minor spotting or foxing may be present upon close inspection. There are adhesive inventory labels (orange 319 and white 2) affixed to the front of the glass. The wooden frame shows accumulated dust and debris within the deep recesses of the foliate carving. Minor surface wear, light scratches, and slight loss of stain are visible on the high points of the carved decoration, consistent with age and use.
