Lot 28: A Pair of Victorian Staffordshire Pottery Spaniel Figures
A pair of Victorian Staffordshire pottery spaniel figures. These earthenware figures are modelled in a seated position, facing inward to form a mirrored pair. Each is finished in a creamy white glaze with a heavily textured surface representing a curly coat. Hand-painted details include black eyes with prominent lashes and pupils, and orange-russet muzzles with black stippled whiskers. Both dogs feature a relief-moulded collar with a decorative hanging chain detail. There are no factory or maker’s marks visible on the bases. An orange adhesive label is present on the head of one figure.
Condition report:
The figures exhibit age-appropriate wear, including extensive fine crazing to the glaze across both pieces. Minor firing imperfections are present, such as small pinholes and dark kiln spots. There is some accumulated surface dirt and minor scuffing around the base areas. The original hand-painted features remain well-preserved. No chips, cracks, or signs of professional restoration are visible.
