Lot 240a: A set of six light oak ladderback dining chairs with rush seats
A set of six light oak dining chairs of ladderback form. Each chair is constructed from solid oak with a light natural finish. The design features a backrest with three arched horizontal slats set between square-section uprights. Construction details include visible square-pegged mortise and tenon joinery at the junctions of the slats and the uprights, as well as where the legs meet the seat rails. The chairs are fitted with hand-woven rush seats in a traditional four-triangle envelope pattern. The legs are of square section and are supported by an H-stretcher and additional low side stretchers for stability. There are no visible maker marks, stamps, or labels present on the frames.
Condition report:
The set is in good overall condition. The oak frames are structurally sound with no visible signs of repair. The surfaces show minor scuffs, nicks, and light scratches consistent with age and domestic use. The rush seats are well-preserved and remain tight, showing only minor fraying and light localized discolouration typical of the material.
