A vintage black silk plush top hat manufactured by Christys London. This classic headpiece features a tall crown with a subtle taper and a flat top, constructed from black silk plush with a high-sheen nap. The curved brim is finished with a black grosgrain ribbon binding, and a matching wide grosgrain ribbon band is situated at the base of the crown. The interior is lined with a cream-coloured silk or satin fabric and features a tan leather sweatband with hand-stitched detailing and a small decorative bow at the rear. The crown lining is printed with the Christys London circular crest logo. Handwritten in ink next to the maker’s mark are the initials W.B.M. The leather sweatband includes handwritten notations for the size 7 1/8 and further markings reading 10 S/BH.

Condition report:
The exterior silk plush is in good overall condition, retaining a healthy lustre and showing no significant loss of nap or thinning at the crown edges or brim. All grosgrain ribbon trims and bindings are intact. The interior silk lining exhibits some light foxing and localized staining consistent with age. The leather sweatband shows signs of previous wear and moderate discolouration but remains flexible and securely attached.
