Lot 210: A Chinese Carved Green Hardstone Tang Style Horse on Wood Stand
A hand-carved hardstone figure of a horse, depicted in the Tang style in a dynamic galloping pose. The figure is fashioned from a translucent pale green hardstone, such as serpentine or nephrite jade, exhibiting natural variations in colour and internal inclusions. The horse features a draped saddlecloth and elaborate openwork reins carved away from the body. The sculpture is mounted on an integral rectangular hardstone base and is accompanied by a custom-fitted, dark-stained wooden stand with pierced scrolling decoration. Two adhesive inventory stickers are present: one white label marked 4 and one orange label marked 210. There are no visible maker’s marks or signatures.
Length: Approximately 15cm – 20cm.
Condition report:
The item is in good overall condition. The fragile openwork reins appear to be intact. Natural inclusions and internal fissures are present within the stone, including a small brownish mark on the lower abdomen. The wooden stand shows minor surface wear and dust consistent with age.
