Lot 197: A Doulton Lambeth Lace-Impressed Stoneware Vase with Gilt Floral Decoration
A Doulton Lambeth stoneware vase of globular form with a tall, tapering neck and flared rim, accompanied by a wooden stand. The body is decorated using a lace-impressed technique, where a fine net-like texture is impressed into the clay beneath a deep cobalt blue glaze. The exterior is further embellished with hand-applied white slip-trailed floral motifs, resembling plum blossoms, which are highlighted with gilding. The underside of the base contains multiple impressed marks including DOULTON, RS, LAMBETH, ttt, 11/7C, 472, and 88, alongside a circular factory stamp featuring the Doulton Lambeth name and a central emblem. Several hand-incised artist monograms are present, including CW and a symbol of a circle with a diagonal slash.
Condition report:
The vase is in good condition overall. There is visible wear to the gilding on the rim and floral highlights, consistent with its age. The base rim shows some surface darkening and minor wear from contact. No chips, cracks, or restorations are evident in the images provided.
