Lot 164: A Collection of Decorative and Collector's Plates including Charles Fracé and Dickensian Examples
An assortment of decorative and collector’s plates and ceramics. The collection includes a Bradford Exchange porcelain plate from the Kingdom of the Great Cats series, titled American Monarch, featuring a lynx in a winter landscape after the original work by Charles Fracé. This plate is finished with a wide hunter-green border decorated with gilded geometric scrollwork and four circular vignettes containing world maps. Also included is a cream-coloured earthenware plate with a relief-moulded floral border, the central polychrome transfer decoration depicting a scene titled Sam Weller Composes His Valentine, after an illustration by A. L. Stafford. A third porcelain plate features a full-surface transfer print of a fruit still-life composition including apples and berries, finished with a gilded rim. The lot further comprises several partially visible blue and white transfer-printed earthenware items decorated with floral and foliate patterns.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in generally good condition. The cream-coloured Sam Weller plate exhibits visible surface crazing to the glaze, which is typical for earthenware of this age. Several adhesive labels are present on the surfaces. No chips, cracks, or repairs are immediately visible on the primary plates shown.
