Lot 162: An Assortment of Lidded German Beer Steins and Drinking Tankards
An assortment of 20th-century German drinking vessels, comprising lidded ceramic beer steins and unlidded metal tankards. The ceramic steins feature traditional relief moulding, including an example decorated with a polychrome bird and floral scene on a cobalt blue ground, fitted with a hinged pewter lid and ornate thumb lift. Another stein depicts a townscape scene in grey relief stoneware with blue glazed accents. The ceramic handles are moulded with foliate and rope-twist patterns. The metal tankards are unlidded with flared rims and C handles, likely fashioned from pewter or a similar alloy. Various lot stickers are present, including 14 and 162.
Dimensions: Standard half-litre and pint sizes.
Condition report:
Generally good used condition. Surface dust is evident throughout. Metal components, particularly the interiors of the tankards, show light tarnish and oxidation. The ceramic bodies appear intact without significant chips or cracks. The hinged lids are functional.
