Lot 137: A Crown Ducal Orange Tree Pattern Three Piece Coffee Set
This three-piece earthenware coffee set is produced by A.G. Richardson and Co Ltd under the Crown Ducal brand. The set features the Orange Tree pattern, a celebrated Art Deco design. The decoration consists of black transfer-printed outlines depicting a stylised landscape with trees and rolling hills, accented with vibrant hand-painted orange enamel fruits and a black dotted ground. The design is set against a cream-coloured earthenware body with black-lined rims and handle details. The set comprises a tall, cylindrical coffee pot with a large angular handle, a swan-neck spout, and a fitted lid with a small finial; a matching bulbous cream jug; and a matching open sugar bowl. The base of the sugar bowl bears a black transfer-printed mark consisting of a crown above the words CROWN DUCAL, WARE, and ENGLAND. It also features the hand-painted pattern number A1211 and a stamped registration number Rd No 711201, which dates the design to approximately 1925.
Condition report:
The set appears to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs. There is minor surface wear and light crazing typical for earthenware of this age and period. Adhesive lot labels are present on the lid and body of the coffee pot.
