Lot 135: Two ceramic figurines comprising a Royal Doulton Smuggler character jug and an anthropomorphic dog stand
A Royal Doulton Smuggler character jug and a glazed ceramic anthropomorphic dog figural stand. The Royal Doulton jug is modeled as a pirate-like figure with a weathered complexion, wearing a black tricorn hat, a black eye patch over the right eye, and a gold-coloured hoop earring. He is depicted with a detailed grey and black beard. An orange adhesive sticker is present on the front of the hat with the handwritten number 135. The second item is a figural stand featuring an anthropomorphic dog, possibly a spaniel or hound, dressed in a cream-coloured coat and a black bowler hat. The dog is positioned next to a pale green column with foliate-moulded decoration and a textured, matte grey top. A small white circular sticker is present on the top surface of the column.
Condition report:
The Royal Doulton Smuggler jug exhibits extensive fine crazing across the flesh-toned areas of the face. There are minor surface scuffs and small spots of glaze loss or kiln debris visible on the black hat. The anthropomorphic dog figure shows general surface wear and an accumulation of dust in the recessed areas. The top surface of the green column has a rough, matte texture. No major chips or cracks are visible to the exterior bodies.
