Lot 129: A Collection of Vintage Hand-Embroidered Linens and Decorative Items
A collection of vintage household linens and decorative items. The primary piece is a white cotton or linen cloth, likely a tray cloth or small tablecloth, featuring a hand-embroidered motif in one corner. This decoration depicts a thatched country cottage in blue-threaded outline, surrounded by a garden of pink, purple, and yellow flowers with green foliage, executed in a variety of stitches including stem stitch and lazy daisy. The collection further includes several folded cream-coloured linen pieces, some of which feature handmade crocheted or tatted lace edgings. One textile piece shows a light floral print. Accompanying the linens are two decorative items: a small rectangular plaque or box lid featuring a printed mountain landscape with a lake and evergreen trees, and a white rectangular cardboard box with a black polka dot pattern and a red border. The items are contained within a branded Colman’s cardboard box.
Condition report:
The items show signs of age and previous use. The linens exhibit typical fold lines, some areas of yellowing, and foxing consistent with long-term storage. The cottage-embroidered cloth appears to be in generally good condition with vibrant colours. The decorative landscape item shows some wear and rubbing to the edges.
