Lot 128: A Burleigh Ceramic Spill Vase and a Cumbria Crystal Lidded Jar
A collection of two decorative objects comprising a Burgess & Leigh (Burleigh) ceramic spill vase and a Cumbria Crystal cut glass lidded jar. The ceramic vase is of flared trumpet form, decorated in the Regal Peacock pattern featuring blue transfer-printed depictions of peacocks amongst floral sprays. The base is marked with a blue backstamp including the text B & L BURLEIGH, REGD NO 532857, and FOR RECN PATTERN APPLIED FOR, along with an impressed number 9 and a cluster of dots. The lidded jar is of cut lead crystal, featuring geometric diamond and fan-cut motifs to the body and a multi-faceted circular finial to the lid. The jar is presented with its original white cardboard box printed with Cumbria Crystal and a glassblower illustration.
Condition report:
The ceramic vase exhibits significant all-over crazing to the glaze and surface dirt to the foot rim. The crystal jar and lid appear in good condition with no visible chips or cracks.
