Lot 116: An Assortment of Cased Silver-plated and Stainless Steel Flatware and Serving Pieces
A collection of three cased sets of vintage flatware and serving utensils. The first set comprises six knives featuring orange-coloured handles and stainless steel blades, housed in a blue fabric-lined presentation case. The second set is contained within a wooden case with a pink satin lining and includes a variety of silver-plated (EPNS) items such as a sifter spoon with a pierced bowl, a pair of sugar tongs, a butter knife, and several teaspoons and dessert spoons. These pieces feature classic rounded or pointed handle patterns. The third set is presented in a wooden case with a black velvet-style lining and consists of five large silver-plated (EPNS) pieces including a basting spoon, two tablespoons, and two table forks, all in a plain, classic rounded handle pattern. Several items bear stamps on the reverse of the stems or on the knife blades, though these markings are not clearly legible.
Condition report:
The silver-plated items exhibit moderate to heavy surface tarnish and patina throughout, particularly evident on the bowls of the spoons, along with minor surface scratches and signs of use consistent with age. The orange handles of the knives show minor age-related wear, and the blades show some surface staining and light pitting. The presentation cases show external scuffing and edge wear, with some internal staining and fading to the fabric linings; the paper lining in the pink case is torn.
