This lot comprises a vintage cased cutlery service and a matching boxed carving set by the prominent Sheffield maker Walker & Hall. The main service consists of six knives and six forks, featuring cream-coloured celluloid handles and stainless steel components. The knives are decorated with chased scrollwork along the back edge of the blades, while the forks have distinctive decorative shoulders. One fork retains an original gold foil label that reads Guaranteed Stainless Fittings. The service is housed in a dark wood case with a royal blue velvet-lined interior. Included within the canteen is a small handwritten note. The matching carving set includes a large knife and a two-pronged fork with a folding guard, both fitted with matching cream celluloid handles. The carving knife blade is etched with a crown above a circular mark for Walker & Hall, Sheffield, containing a central flag logo. The carving set is presented in its original fitted cardboard box.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition overall. The metal surfaces show light surface scratches and signs of use consistent with age. The celluloid handles have mellowed to a warm cream tone, showing some light surface wear and minor discolouration. The carving fork shows visible oxidation and tarnish at the base of the tines and near the bolster. The wooden canteen shows external scuffing and wear to the velvet lining. The cardboard carving set box shows significant staining and edge wear.
