Lot 73: Two Antique Utility Items Comprising a Brass Garden Sprayer and a Fireplace Poker
This lot consists of two antique utility implements from the late 19th or early 20th century. The first is a manual garden sprayer of telescopic syringe-style design, featuring a cylindrical brass body and a turned wooden handle. Such items were traditionally utilised for the application of water or insecticides in Victorian and Edwardian gardens. The second item is a fireplace poker, comprising a decorative turned brass handle with a spherical finial and a tapered iron rod. No manufacturer or maker marks are visible on either piece.
Condition report:
Both items are in worn, antique condition. The garden sprayer shows heavy surface oxidisation and a green verdigris patina throughout the brass sections; the wooden handle shows surface wear, and the internal mechanism is untested and of unknown functionality. The fireplace poker exhibits heavy corrosion and pitting to the iron rod, which also has a visible bend towards the tapered tip. All brass components on both items are heavily tarnished.
