This lot comprises two components forming a vintage high pressure brass oil can, attributed to the Enots brand by Benton and Stone Ltd, specifically the 1930 No. 10 or 10A type. The first component is a cylindrical brass reservoir featuring a side-mounted aperture for the pump and filler cap. Attached to the front is a long, tapered brass nozzle assembly which terminates in a knurled brass fitting. The second component is the internal high pressure pump assembly, constructed from brass and ferrous metal. It consists of a circular thumb-press handle, a skeletal cage designed to hold the piston seal, and a long needle plunger. A circular maker’s mark is present on the side of the main reservoir body, though the curved text and central device are worn and not clearly legible. This design was commonly used in the early 20th century for industrial and automotive lubrication.
Condition report:
The items are in an uncleaned, as-found state with a deep natural patina and surface tarnish throughout. The pump assembly is currently separate from the main reservoir. There are various surface scratches, small dings, and signs of age-related wear consistent with industrial use. The mechanical integrity and functional status of the pump and internal seals are untested.
