Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A mid-20th-century Masonic regalia set associated with Piel Castle Lodge No. 6099, based in Barrow-in-Furness. The set features a Master Mason’s apron designed in the United Grand Lodge of England style, constructed from white leather with sky-blue moiré ribbon borders and three matching rosettes. It includes two silver-toned metal ornamental tassels with chain-link hangers. The collection includes significant historical documentation and provenance: a typed letter on Piel Castle Lodge letterhead dated 9th September 1968, addressed to Mr M. Young of 22 Holbeck Road, Barrow-in-Furness, regarding his initiation ceremony scheduled for 23rd September 1968 at the Masonic Hall, Fairfield Lane. The letter, signed by Acting Secretary A. A. Kay, specifies attire requirements and initiation fees totalling thirty-two pounds and one shilling. Also included is a blue card-covered booklet titled PIEL CASTLE LODGE No. 6099 and a small cream-coloured card folder. The items are contained within a brown textured rectangular carrying case with a blue velvet-lined interior, metal latches, and a top handle.

Condition report:

The apron is in good vintage condition with light surface marks and minor age-related yellowing to the white leather, though the ribbon and rosettes remain vibrant. The correspondence shows original horizontal fold lines and minor foxing consistent with age. The lodge booklet exhibits light edge wear. The carrying case shows external scuffing, edge wear, and oxidation to the metal hardware, while the interior lining is well-preserved.
