Lot 186: Mid-20th Century Vulcanised Fibre Flat-Top Steamer Trunk
A mid-20th century vintage flat-top steamer trunk or travelling chest. The body is constructed from black vulcanised fibre or covered plywood, featuring metal-bound edges and corner guards secured with metal rivets. The front is equipped with two outer toggle latches and a central locking hasp, currently fitted with a small padlock. The hardware exhibits a weathered, brass-toned finish. The chest is mounted on small wooden blocks or recessed casters at the base. There are no visible maker’s marks, stamps, or labels on the exterior of the item. An auction lot tag is adhered to the top right edge.
Condition report:
The trunk is in well-used vintage condition. The exterior shows noticeable surface wear, including scuffs, scratches, and patches of finish loss on the front panel. Metal components show oxidation and surface tarnishing commensurate with age and regular use.
