This lot comprises three antique wooden bread boards of traditional British design, dating from the late Victorian to early 20th century. The collection includes two circular boards and one rectangular board. One circular board is of plain turned construction with a raised rim. The second circular board features a carved border with partial relief-carved lettering showing the characters T, H, E, likely part of a traditional motto. The rectangular board is designed with an integral handle featuring the word BREAD in relief-carved lettering and foliate or wheat-ear carvings to the corners. All three boards are constructed from a light-coloured hardwood, typically sycamore, and exhibit a darkened, aged patina from domestic use.
Condition report:
All three boards are in used condition with wear consistent with age and functional use. The plain circular board has a significant radial split extending from the edge towards the centre. All pieces show heavy knife scarring to the cutting surfaces, surface staining, and minor chips or abrasions to the edges.
