A set of five UK decimal coins issued by the Royal Mint to mark the 1971 transition to decimal currency. The set comprises three bronze denominations (1/2p, 1p, 2p) and two cupro-nickel denominations (5p, 10p). The obverse of each coin features the Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The reverse designs are the standard heraldic types for these denominations designed by Christopher Ironside. The coins are housed in the original blue plastic folding wallet with a printed descriptive insert card. The white card surround within the wallet has been annotated with handwritten blue ink indicating decimal values and pre-decimal shilling equivalents.
Condition report:
The coins appear in uncirculated condition, with the bronze pieces showing minor natural surface toning. The blue plastic folder exhibits shelf wear, creasing, and light soiling consistent with age. The interior card insert has extensive handwritten blue ink annotations around the coin apertures.
