Lot 44: Antique Copper Chestnut Roaster
An antique copper chestnut roaster or fireside roasting plate, of traditional English design. The piece features a circular pan head made from sheet copper with a rolled rim, connected to a long, slender handle. The pan is detailed with multiple hand-punched circular perforations across the base to allow for heat distribution and smoke ventilation. There are no maker’s marks or stamps present. Two small adhesive lot or stock labels are affixed to the surface, marked 14 and 44 respectively.
Condition report:
The item is in good antique condition, showing a dark, uncleaned patina consistent with age and use. There is visible surface oxidation and some pitting to the copper. Noticeable areas of green verdigris are present around the handle socket and the outer edge of the pan. No structural repairs are evident.
