A late 19th to early 20th-century dome-top steamer trunk, commonly referred to as a camel-back or humpback trunk. The piece is constructed with a curved lid and a brown-coloured body, likely canvas or leather-covered, which is reinforced by vertical wooden slats. The structure is further strengthened with black-painted metal strapping and decorative corner brackets, all secured with numerous round-headed metal rivets. The central hardware comprises a brass-toned metal lock plate with a circular keyhole, flanked by two black-painted metal lever-action latches. A small yellow adhesive inventory tag marked 438 is present on the upper corner of the lid. No manufacturer or maker marks are visible on the exterior of the item.
Condition report:
The trunk is in well-used antique condition. Visual inspection reveals general scuffing, abrasions, and discoloration to the surface covering. The metal strapping and hardware exhibit areas of paint loss and surface oxidation. The piece retains a weathered, rustic patina commensurate with age and historical travel use.
