Lot 421: A Mid-20th Century White Painted Wooden Kitchen Larder Cabinet

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This is a large, mid-20th-century freestanding kitchen larder cabinet of wooden construction with a distressed white painted finish. The cabinet is organised into three main vertical sections. The left-hand section contains four cupboard doors arranged in two pairs, each inset with a glass panel. The glass is decorated with a dark-coloured geometric double-lined grid pattern. Between the upper and lower pairs of glazed doors is a horizontal metal mesh ventilation strip. The centre section features a single, full-height solid-fronted door. The right-hand section consists of two solid doors, similarly separated by a horizontal metal mesh ventilation strip. The unit is fitted with simple, curved metal pull handles and external metal butt hinges. These mesh panels are characteristic of larder cupboards, designed to facilitate airflow for food storage. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior, though an illegible orange sticker is present on one of the upper door frames.

Condition report:

The item is in a well-used, unrestored condition. There is significant and widespread surface wear, paint loss, and staining consistent with its age and utilitarian function. The painted finish is chipped and scuffed throughout. The metal mesh panels show signs of surface oxidation. One glazed panel has a small sticker attached. The piece is suitable for a restoration project or a shabby chic interior.
