Lot 397: A Country Windsor Style High-Back Armchair
A single high-back Windsor-style armchair constructed from a light-toned hardwood, possibly beech or elm, with a honey-coloured polished finish. The chair features a shaped top rail above a series of turned vertical spindles and a central decorative splat with pierced geometric cutouts. The curved and shaped arms are supported by turned spindles. The solid wood seat is composed of two joined boards with a visible central seam and is supported by four turned legs. An orange and white rectangular auction lot label bearing the characters 397 15 is attached to the left-hand outer spindle of the backrest. No other maker’s marks or stamps are visible.
Condition report:
The chair is in fair to good condition, showing surface wear and scuffing consistent with age and use. There is visible wear to the arm terminals and across the seat surface. The central seam in the seat is prominent.
