Lot 141: A Boxed Hornby O Gauge Clockwork LNER Passenger Train Set
This vintage Hornby O gauge train set is manufactured by Meccano Ltd of Liverpool. The set comprises a collection of lithographed tinplate items including a clockwork 0-4-0 steam locomotive finished in green LNER (London and North Eastern Railway) livery with the number 460 to the cab side. It is accompanied by a matching tender with L N E R lettering and a passenger coach in a brown teak-effect LNER livery featuring detailed window and door lithography. Also included is an assortment of curved and straight tinplate track sections. The collection is housed in its original cardboard box which features a large colour pictorial label to the interior of the lid depicting a speeding LNER locomotive. The label includes the markings Hornby Train, British and Guaranteed, and Made in England by Meccano Ltd, Liverpool.
Condition report:
The set is in play-worn condition. There is visible paint loss and scratching to the locomotive, tender, and coach. The tinplate track sections show surface oxidation and some rust. The cardboard box shows significant signs of age and use, including fraying to the edges, corner splits, and staining to the interior label. A small white auction lot sticker numbered 55 is adhered to the interior. The clockwork mechanism is present but has not been tested for functionality.
