Lot 55: A Mid-20th Century Smiths Enfield Wooden Mantel Clock
A mid-20th century mantel clock manufactured by Smiths Enfield. The clock features a dark-stained wooden case of arched form, standing on a rectangular base with integrated feet. The two-tone circular dial has a silvered outer chapter ring with black Roman numeral hour markers and a dark-coloured central section. It is fitted with ornate gilt-finished hands and a convex glass lens held within a chrome-plated bezel. The dial is marked with the stacked Smiths Enfield logo and Made in England at the base. This is a timepiece-only model with a mechanical key-wound movement, indicated by the single winding aperture located above the six o’clock position.
Condition report:
The wooden case exhibits light surface wear, minor scuffs, and small scratches consistent with age and use. The chrome-plated bezel shows some light tarnishing. The dial and glass appear in good condition. The gilt finish on the hands shows minor pitting and tarnish. The movement is untested for timekeeping and is offered without a winding key.
